Wouldn’t it be nice to have set of data that tells you the best time to book your trips for the busiest holidays? Well, Vrbo has done just that. Earlier this month, the lodging website published an article with booking deadlines for each major holiday.

According to Vrbo’s study, people book their trips in January more so than any other month.

“The key is to book before traffic on the Vrbo app peaks so you’ll find the best selection of vacation homes for the amount you want to pay.” said Vrbo family travel expert Melanie Fish. “There are clear times when demand surges, and booking your stay before that surge ensures you’ll get that house with a pool right on the beach or that mountain cabin that has enough beds for all the cousins.”

“Booking early means first dibs on vacation homes during peak travel seasons,” Melanie Fish added. “If you get ahead of the curve, there is more selection available so you’re able to find a home in the right location with the amenities you need and a price that makes you happy.”

That’s more or less common sense, so let’s move on to Vrbo’s prescribed booking deadlines, which will help you get the best accommodations at the best prices.

For Spring Break, Vrbo recommends that you book your trip by 10 February. For Memorial Day weekend, you should book no later than 20 April. For general summer vacations, get your trip sorted out by 30 April. When it comes to Fourth of July weekend, Vrbo suggests booking on 25 May at the latest.

Moving into the end of the year, Vrbo says to book your Labor Day weekend trip by 28 July. Thanksgiving should be booked by 21 October. If you’re planning a skiing holiday, arrange everything by 30 October. And for the big one, Christmas/New Years, make sure you’re booked by 17 November.

Additionally, Vrbo compiled data showing the most popular family destinations for each holiday/season:

Spring break: Breckenridge, Colo.; Gulf Shores, Ala.; Scottsdale, Ariz.

Memorial Day: Gulf Shores, Ala.; Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; Orange Beach, Ala.

Summer season: Panama City Beach, Fla.; Gulf Shores, Ala.; Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Fourth of July: Orange Beach, Ala.; Panama City, Fla.; Gulf Shores, Ala.

Labor Day: Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Thanksgiving: Sevierville, Tenn.; Kissimmee, Fla.

Ski season: Breckenridge, Colo.; Keystone, Colo.

Winter break: Park City, Utah; Kissimmee, Fla.; Sevierville, Tenn.
